PhD position in cell biology (Halle)

A PhD position is available at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, Pathobiochemistry at the Medical Faculty of the University of Halle.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in cell biology, molecular biology and protein biochemistry.
The project focuses on the functional analysis of the multifunctional proteins of the plakophilin family and their role in cell signaling. We have recently shown that plakophilins 1 and 3 function in the regulation of translation initiation (Cell Cycle 2010; 9:2973-8; J Cell Biol. 2010; 188:463-71). The project aims at a comprehensive characterization of the role of plakophilins in mRNA translation and mRNA processing and its physiological function in the context of wound healing and tumorigenesis of the skin.
The project is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is part of the graduate school GRK 1591 “Posttranscriptional control of gene expression - mechanisms and role in pathogenesis” (further information at: http://www.medizin.uni-halle.de/index.php?id=786). This graduate school offers a versatile structured training program with seminars as well as hands on courses in a very stimulating atmosphere.
