Researcher position at Norwegian University of Life Sciences


Researcher- Management of genetic variation for sustainable animal breeding (position reference number 11/1582) 

The researcher position is available from May2012 onwards and based at the Institute of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway, which is located at Ås, 30 km south of Oslo. The position is offered for 2.75 years. The project is a collaboration between the Nordic network of animal genetic resources (www.nordgen.org/index.php/skand/content/view/full/1689/) and the Norwegian cattle, pig, and sheep and goat breeding organisations: GENO (www.geno.no), NORSVIN (www.norsvin.no), and NSG (www.nsg.no).

The successful candidate will be working in the project team "Management of genetic variation for sustainable animal breeding". (S)he will be developing and implementing selection methods that maximise the response to selection whilst at the same time controlling the genetic variation in breeding schemes for cattle, pigs, sheep and goats. The successful candidate will be based at Ås (Norway).


Preferred qualifications
.Applicants are expected to have a PhD degree in statistics, quantitative genetics, or animal breeding 
.Experience with computer programming is required

- Ability to work in a research group
- Analytic ability and academic approach to research 
- Applicants must be proficient in English, both written and spoken

Salary
The position is remunerated starting at level 57 on the Norwegian Government salary scale (gross annual salary approximately NOK 456 100). Increases in salary will be according to seniority rights. The position follows the Norwegian government pay scale and includes membership in the national pension plan (2% contribution).
