El Monumento Nacional Bandelier será anfitrión
de dos “Voluntarios Internacionales en Parques” (IVIPs, pasantes
internacionales) del 7 de mayo a 19 de octubre 2012. Estos pasantes
internacionales apoyarán la protección de las aves migratorias a través
de proyectos de monitoreo y educación de aves en el Monumento Nacional de Bandelier (Nuevo México) y el Parque Nacional Mesa Verde (Colorado). Esta
pasantía le dará a los pasantes mucho tiempo aprendiendo a identificar,
determinar edad y sexo, y anillar aves terrestres con un anillador de
aves experimentado o miembro del personal del Monumento Nacional
Bandelier. Un enfoque principal será el uso de limites de muda, barras
de crecimiento, y estructura de las plumas para determinar información
de edad. Los pasantes también presentarán programas educativos sobre
aves en aulas de clases y en viajes de campo escolares a la estación de
anillamiento en Bandelier, por lo tanto, experiencia y/o interés en la educación ambiental es un plus. Esta oportunidad está abierta para todos los candidatos calificados de Latino América (México, Centro América y Sur América) y el Caribe. Para
aplicar, los requisitos básicos son: 1) experiencia en anillado de aves
y comodidad manipulando extrayendo aves de redes de niebla; 2)
experiencia con educación ambiental relacionado con las aves u otros
temas de conservación; 3) por lo menos un nivel intermedio de Inglés
(lectura, escritura, comprensión y expresión oral); 4) licencia de conducir valida del país de origen y suficiente experiencia conduciendo; y 5) una actitud entusiasta y alegre. Hay
un poco de flexibilidad en los requisitos básicos, entre ellos: 1)
podemos aceptar un solicitante con menos experiencia con anillamiento
pero con un nivel intermedio a avanzado de inglés y experiencia con
programas educativos, siempre y cuando el otro pasante tenga habilidad
avanzada en anillamiento de aves; 2) podemos aceptar un solicitante con
inglés básico a intermedio y con un nivel relativamente alto en
anillamiento de aves, siempre y cuando el otro pasante tenga un nivel
intermedio a avanzado en inglés; 3) podemos aceptar un candidato sin
experiencia de conducción, siempre y cuando el otro pasante tenga
licencia de conducir vigente de su país de origen y varios años de
experiencia. Ambos
pasantes deben ser capaces de comprender comunicaciones de seguridad y
radio e impartir presentaciones en idioma inglés. Los candidatos deben
ser capaces de aplicar los conocimientos que adquieran en los EEUU en
esfuerzos de conservación en parques nacionales, áreas protegidas o
Áreas Importantes para Aves en sus países de origen. Los pasantes
reciben US $750.00 al mes para alimentación y gastos misceláneos, y el
parque cubre gastos de boleto aéreo, hospedaje, equipo necesario, y
trámite de la requerida visa J1. Los aplicantes potenciales deben estar

2012 INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIPS IN BANDELIER NATIONAL MONUMENT
Bandelier
National Monument will host two International Volunteers-In-Parks
(IVIPs; international interns) from 7 May – 19 October 2012. These
international interns will support the protection of migratory birds
through bird monitoring efforts and education within Bandelier National
Monument (New Mexico) and Mesa Verde National Park (Colorado). This
internship will give interns a great deal of time learning to identify,
age, sex, and band songbirds with an experienced bird bander or staff
member at Bandelier National Monument. A major focus will be using molt
limits, growth bars, and the structure of feathers to determine age
information. The interns will also present bird-oriented educational
programs in classrooms and during student field trips to Bandelier’s
banding station, therefore experience and/or interest in environmental
education is a plus. This opportunity is open to qualified
candidates from Latin America (Mexico, Central and South America) and
the Caribbean. To apply, the basic requirements are: 1) experience with
bird banding and comfort handling and removing birds from mist-nets; 2)
experience with education related to birds or other conservation topics;
3) at least an intermediate level of English (reading, writing,
understanding and speaking); 4) a valid driver license from the intern’s
home country and sufficient driving experience; and 5) an enthusiastic,
fun, and outgoing attitude. There is limited flexibility in these
basic requirements, including: 1) we may accept an applicant with less
experience banding with intermediate to advanced English-speaking skills
and experience with educational programs, as long as the other intern
has advanced bird banding skills; 2) we may accept an applicant with
basic English-speaking skills and a relatively high level of bird
handling or bird-banding experience, as long as the other intern has
intermediate to advanced English-speaking skills; 3) we may accept an
applicant without driving experience, as long as the other intern has a current driver’s license from his or her home country, with at least a few years of driving experience. Both
successful applicants must be able to understand safety and radio
communications and give presentations in English. Candidates must be
able to apply the skills gained in the U.S. to bird conservation efforts
in national parks and protected areas or Important Bird Areas in their
home countries. Interns will receive US $750.00 a month for food and
miscellaneous expenses, and the program will cover the expenses of
airfare, housing, and the required J -1 visa. Potential applicants must
be in their home country the 3 months prior to the internship for visa
reasons. Top candidates will be able to review a detailed position
description and will be required to have phone interviews in English.
