One open Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher (PhD) position

Overview
Heidelberg University Hospital with its more than 40 specialized clinical departments is one of the leading medical centers in Europe. The highest standards of medical care are guaranteed by world-renowned professors, distinguished physicians and committed nursing staff. Heidelberg University Hospital is constantly developing new methods of diagnosis and treatment at the forefront of biomedical science for the benefit of all patients.

In the frame of the FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network EuTRiPD, the Heidelberg University Hospital invites applications for an open Marie Curie ESR fellowship.

The EuTRiPD network will provide a unique opportunity for a total of 12 researchers in early stages of their careers to study emerging research topics in the field of Peritoneal Dialysis and receive training to enhance their research skills, under the prestigious scheme of a Marie Curie Initial Training Network.

The fellow to be recruited by the Heidelberg University Hospital will be employed under full-time fixed-term contracts with full social security coverage and all benefits in accordance to Marie Curie ITN fellowship regulations (highly competitive remuneration plus allowances for living and mobility expenses). Early Stage Researchers will register to read for a Doctor of medicine (Dr. med.) or a Doctor scientiarum humanarum (Dr.sc.hum.) of the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg. The duration of the fellowships is 36 months for the Early Stage Researchers.

Research activities will be carried out at the premises of Heidelberg University Hospital in Heidelberg in close collaboration with the EuTRiPD network. The fellow will spend 4-6 months visiting EuTRiPD’s collaborating partners at the University of Vienna and will participate in a private sector secondment at Zytoprotect, Vienna, Austria.
The fellow will join the semi-annual EuTRiPD Academy and will perform their individual research projects studying peritoneal dialysis related peritoneal tissue and vessel injury by integration of clinical, histomorphological, transcriptomic, and proteomics data.

Project title:  Paediatric PD – the ‘pure’ PD-related peritoneal injury
Type of position:       Early Stage Researcher (ESR) / PhD position
Reference Code:         EuTRiPD-ESR 12
Eligibility:    To this position applies a mobility rule. The respective candidate must not have worked for more than 12 months in Germany within the last three years. Furthermore, the candidate needs to be in his/her first four years of his/her research career. The four years are counted from the date a degree was obtained which formally entitles to embark on a doctorate.

The ESR will investigate tissue specimens from an international pediatric PD biobank by quantitative histomorphometry, transcriptomic and proteomic analyses and will correlate these observations to peritoneal transport kinetics, the time averaged biochemical risk profile and genetic variation.

Only researchers are eligible who, at the time of selection by the host organisation:
-       have not yet been awarded the doctorate degree
