The Laboratory 1 of the Structural Biology Unit headed by Dr. Alfonso Martinez de la Cruz at the CIC bioGUNE (www.cicbiogune.es) offers the possibility to apply for a PhD fellowship of the Department of Education, Universities and research of the Basque Government. The maximum length of the grant is 48 months, split in two funded periods: the first 24 months with a scholarship grant and the last 24 months under a practice contract. The DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING the APPLICATIONS is July 21st, 2011.
The call requires a Certificate of Residence in the Basque Country since at least 21/07/2010.
The candidates must have finished their studies after June 2007. Candidates planning to finish their studies by August 2011 will also be accepted.  Research Areas 10-11-12 (see full call) will require a qualification equal or superior to 1,35 points. Other areas (see full call) 1,55 points.

The research lines currently ongoing  in the lab are focused in determining  the molecular mechanisms by which Cystathionine beta synthase (CBS) domains regulate the activity of human enzymes and ion channels and their role in the development of rare diseases, such as homocysteinuria, Jalili Syndrome or the Urofacial syndrome. The research will involve the use of a wide variety of experimental approaches including biophysical techniques, X-ray diffraction crystallography and molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. The ultimate goal is the design of drugs to modulate the activity of the these macromolecules.

The interested candidates should contact with Dr. Alfonso Martinez de la Cruz at
