Job Description
We are looking for a self-motivated young scientist who can work independently and has experience in protein biochemistry and immunology.
A research fellow position is offered to assist in three basic fields of research:
1) Autoimmunity: studies are aimed at elucidating the role of a novel sulfilimine bond in Goodpasture disease, a human autoimmune disease that targets the kidney
2) Cancer: Role of sulfilimine bond in tumor metastasis
3) Molecular architecture of the glomerulus in health and disease (with an emphasis in diabetic nephropathy)
a) Imaging Mass Spectrometry and molecular profiling of the glomerulus
b) Proteomics studies of the extracellular matrix
Key Functions and Expected Performances: Under moderate supervision, set up, conduct experiments, and continue research projects following protocols including the appropriate recording of data and reporting of standard or variant results. Assist in other laboratory and research functions. Able to expertly perform western blots, tissue culture, prepare plasmid DNA preparations, and do immunohistochemistry, including tissue embedding, sectioning, and staining. Protein/peptide purification by immunoaffinity chromatography and/or conventional biochemical methods is requiered. Will work with the PI to carry-out the goals of scientific projects. Able to read the literature, develop and trouble shoot protocols. Running advanced-level experiments and assays (examples: cloning of genes into retroviral vectors, gene expression quantitation by PCR, and investigations into signaling pathway modifications), flow cytometry and analyses of primary purified lymphocytes; initially with some guidance or teaching but later with independence - and recording results completely, accurately, and promptly. Basic Requirements: This position requires a PhD degree (Biochemistry, Molecular/Cell Biology, or related fields) and a minimum of 12 months related laboratory experience. Experience in handling mice and all facets of husbandry is preferred.
