The MINOS (MIcrosystems and NanOtechnologies for Chemical AnalysiS)research group and the Metabolomics Platform  from the Rovira i Virgili University is seeking candidates to apply for 2 scholarships to obtain the PhD at our research facilities located in Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain.

There are 2 positions available:
1. Development of micro/nano electronic surfaces and signal processing algorithms for Nano Iniciator Mass Spectroscopy.
The objectives are the fabrication of different nanosctructured materials (silicon, alumina, etc.) suitable for the analysis of tissue and body fluid metabolites by MALDITOF-MS and the creation of algorithms for obtained data processing and representation.

Required profile: Candidates should have a background on electronics, chemistry or physics. Experience on statistics, and multivariate analysis will also be highly

2. Development of ceramic micro-cantilever sensors for trace analysis of volatile organic compounds
The objectives are the fabrication of micro-cantilever substrates employing a sacrificiallayer screen-printing technology and their functionalisation with adsorbent materials such as ionic liquids or ionic liquid and carbon nanotube hybrids. The candidate will be co-supervised by the URV team and a team from IMS (Bordeaux, France).

Requiredprofile: Candidates should have a background on chemistry but strong candidates from electronics or physics will be considered as well. Candidates may have a bachelor degree or a master degree to be eligible for the
positions. We offer a 2 year Scholarship plus a 2 year contract to develop research work that would allow the candidates to obtain their Ph.D. degree in our doctorate program at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Rovira i Virgili University. Moreover, if the candidates lack a master degree the scholarship will also allow them to obtain their Master degree on Electronic Engineering
at our department.

Candidates should send their CV to Dr. Xavier Correig through his email address (xavier.correig@urv.cat) no later than June 22. A letter of research interest and
intentions would be greatly appreciated as well as recommendation letters from tutors or mentors if available.
