PhD studentship in Chemical Biology of N-glycans
A PhD studentship is immediately available in the group of Niels Reichardt, Biofunctional Nanomaterials Unit, CICbiomaGUNE for the Chemical Biology of N-glycans. N-glycans represent a major post-translational modification of proteins and are known to strongly influence protein structure and function. This project falls under the broad headline of immunobiology of parasite and mammalian glycans and will help to elucidate structure-function relationships drawing on synthetic organic chemistry, microarray technology and mass spectrometry. The gained knowledge will allow the preparation of synthetic conjugate vaccine candidates against major parasite infections, which is a final goal of the project. The student will receive advanced training in synthetic carbohydrate chemistry, enzyme expression, microarray technology and bioassays.
